Learning
The Totteridge Academy is a close-knit, supportive and welcoming community. Our staff all share a strong work-ethic, enjoy collaboration and are open to new ideas and techniques. Above all, we love working with young people and want to help each student achieve their very best. We believe that every staff member has a significant impact on our students' daily lives subscribe to the philosophy that we are all here to enable students to thrive and succeed.
We subscribe to the principle of ‘kaizen’ here at TTA: we believe that we are all on a journey of continuous improvement and, as such, we are always reflecting on our practice. We have high expectations of every person in our school community and work to open doors to individuals' goals and dreams for their future, whatever these might be.
Every member of staff strives to be better every single day, and this message is openly communicated to our students. This culture of open-mindedness and collaboration extends from the most experienced teachers to trainees, and we push all of our staff to learn from each other. You will find award-winning teachers working alongside those that are new to the profession, all developing together. Staff continuously drop into one another's lessons and give constructive feedback; we consider feedback a gift. Students respond extremely well to feedback and make 'purple pen' improvements to their work. We celebrate and encourage learning from mistakes.
A central tenet of our teaching and learning philosophy here at TTA is that every teacher should be autonomous and given the independence and scope to make the right decisions for their own classes and students. We place a great deal of trust in our staff as the experts and each department devises a bespoke approach to the teaching of their subject.
As part of United Learning, we also benefit from extensive additional support such as from our Group’s subject specialists, common curricula and wide-ranging CPD opportunities. In particular, we are part of a cluster of schools in London with whom we regularly collaborate to build and share best practice.

We have also created a suggested reading list to encourage your children to read for pleasure outside of school. All of these books can be found in the school library as well as a wide range of others.
